Privacy Policy
Short version: your personal records stay on your phone.
No account. No servers of ours. No ads and no tracking across apps or websites. We never see which sites you visit or which apps you block. To improve the app we use PostHog, a product analytics service hosted in the EU, which receives pseudonymous usage data and screen recordings of how the app is used. Details are below.

What is stored on your phone
Flamonk saves the following on your device, inside the app's own storage:
- Your first name or nickname, if you enter one, and your onboarding answers.
- Your days, waymarks, seals, vows and prayer progress.
- Your protection settings, such as Normal or Hard mode and your push-up count.
- Your trusted contact and your church, if you choose them.
We do not keep a copy of these records on any server. Please note that while you use the app, screen recordings for analytics can show what is on your screen at that moment (see "Product analytics and session recordings").
The records are encrypted by iOS and excluded from iCloud and computer backups, so a backup on a shared computer never contains them (this also means a new iPhone starts these records fresh). You can delete everything at any time in Settings › Erase all data, or by deleting the app.
Product analytics and session recordings
We use PostHog to understand how people use Flamonk and to find and fix problems, so we can improve the app. PostHog is provided by PostHog Inc. and processes the data on our behalf. The app sends this data to PostHog's EU cloud (eu.posthog.com), which is hosted in Frankfurt, Germany.
What PostHog receives:
- A random ID. When the app starts for the first time, PostHog creates a random ID for this installation. It is not linked to your name, email or Apple ID. We do not create user profiles. If you delete the app, the ID is deleted with it, and a new install gets a new ID.
- App events. For example that the app was installed, updated, opened or sent to the background.
- Device and app information. For example the device model, iOS version, app version, language, time zone, screen size and whether you are on Wi-Fi or mobile data.
- Session recordings. While you use the app, PostHog records screenshots of the app's screens and your taps, so we can see how the app is used. Text you type into text fields is hidden in these recordings. The camera views for push-ups and the mirror are never recorded. Other content on the screen, such as your first name, your answers or prayer texts, can appear in the recordings. The recordings also include basic technical details about the app's network requests, such as the address called, the timing and the result.
- Your IP address. Like any internet service, PostHog receives your IP address when the app sends data, and uses it to estimate your approximate location, such as country and city.
PostHog does not receive your browsing history, the apps you block, your Screen Time data, camera images or your payment details.
We do not sell this data, do not use it for advertising, and do not combine it with data from other companies to track you across apps or websites. Flamonk does not use Apple's advertising identifier and does not ask for tracking permission.
Legal basis: our legitimate interest in understanding how the app is used and in improving it (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). You can object at any time by writing to us.
Retention: the data is kept for PostHog's standard retention periods for our plan and is then deleted automatically. For more, see posthog.com/privacy.
Screen Time
Flamonk uses Apple's Screen Time framework (Family Controls) to shield apps and websites. When you pick apps, iOS gives Flamonk anonymous tokens, not app names or usage data. We cannot see which apps you use or for how long.
Safari extension
The Flamonk Safari extension compares the address of each page you open against a block list that ships inside the extension. This happens on your phone. Safari asks for permission to access all websites because the extension has to check every page to block the bad ones.
- We do not record, store or send your browsing history.
- We do not keep a log of blocked sites.
- When a blocked site or porn search is hit, the extension tells the Flamonk app on your phone so it can lock your phone (Hard mode). Only the fact that a block happened is passed on, not the address or the search words. Searches for help are never blocked.
- The one-time setup test normally runs inside the extension on your phone. Only if the extension isn't allowed on all websites yet does Safari load example.com, a neutral test page, and nothing about you is sent with it.
Camera
If you unlock with push-ups, Flamonk uses your front camera to count them. The video is analyzed live on your phone with Apple's Vision framework. The phone's motion sensor helps check the angle of your phone. No photos or video are saved or sent anywhere, and the camera view is excluded from session recordings. You can always use the math challenge instead.
The "I'm being tempted" mirror shows your front camera live on your screen. Nothing is recorded, saved or sent.
Face ID
If you turn on the Face ID lock, iOS checks your face. Flamonk only learns whether the check succeeded. We never receive your face data.
Trusted contact
If you choose a trusted contact, you pick one person from your contacts with Apple's contact picker. Flamonk only gets the name and phone number you pick, not your address book, and saves them on your phone. Messages to that person are sent by you through Apple's Messages app.
Notifications
Reminders are scheduled on your phone. We do not use a push server and do not receive a device token. Notifications never show your name or say that a site was blocked, because they can appear on your Lock Screen, a paired Watch or a Mac.
Read-aloud
When Listen or Pray reads text aloud, it uses Apple's built-in voices on your phone.
Church search
If you search for churches nearby in Fellowship or Settings, you can share your location while you use the app, or type a city instead. Your location or search text goes to Apple Maps to find results. We do not store it, and it is not used for anything else. You can turn location access off anytime in iOS Settings.
Purchases
Subscriptions are sold and billed by Apple through the App Store. We never receive your payment details. The app asks Apple's StoreKit whether your subscription is active. Apple's privacy policy applies to the purchase: apple.com/legal/privacy.
Website waitlist
If you sign up for the waitlist on our website, we store your email address, the time of signup and which form you used. We use it only to email you when Flamonk launches on iOS. The data is stored with Cloudflare (Cloudflare, Inc., USA), which hosts our website as a processor, so it may be transferred to the United States. Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you can withdraw at any time. We delete your address after the launch notification, or earlier if you email [email protected].
When you email us
If you write to support, we receive your email address and whatever you write. We use it only to answer you and delete the conversation when it is no longer needed, at the latest after 12 months, unless the law requires us to keep it longer. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in answering your request (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR), or steps related to your subscription (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
What we don't do
- No user accounts or sign-in.
- No advertising, no ad IDs, no tracking across apps or websites.
- No selling of personal data, and no sharing except with the service providers named on this page.
Children
Flamonk is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has used the app, contact us. Data on the device is removed by deleting the app.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the EU GDPR or US state privacy laws), you have the right to access, correct or delete personal data we hold about you, to restrict or object to processing, and to data portability. In practice we hold support emails and the pseudonymous analytics data described above. Because analytics data is tied only to a random ID, we may need your help to find it. Write to us and we will help. If you are in the EU, you can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Changes
If Flamonk ever starts to process data in a new way, we will update this page before that feature ships and change the date at the top.
